The group of Neurodynamics and Clinical Psychology of the University Institute for Research in Health Science and the University of the Balearic Islands organize the II International Symposium for the Study of Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia. This symposium will present the latest research and practices into chronic pain, and fibromyalgia in particular.
Fibromyalgia is recently recognised pathology that draws attention from numerous parts of society. Since the 90s, it is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) The later organization has set clear-cut criteria to classify Fibromyalgia. Yet, the etiology of the pathology is still under investigation and no standard procedures have been set to take care of the patients.
Researchers have defined fibromyalgia as a syndrome comprising generalized chronic pain, cognitive impairments (attention and memory), depression and fatigue. The Central Nervous System and genetic causes are at the core of this disease. Furthermore, many factors influencing the subject feeling of pain have been indentified; such as sleep deprivation and physical exercise.
The II International Symposium for the Study of Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia will make a major contribution to the understanding of fibromyalgia by presenting outstanding research from a wide range of disciplines.
